VS-CARRE-X is a collection of tableaux composed of bright pixels in three dimensions. Their specific geometry means they diffuse an intense indirect light, which is nevertheless soft and imbued with a unique texture.
Visual System has been working for a long time on the concept of indirect light in pixels in relief, to create a particular light that is almost palpable in form. This has been a long time in the making and has involved visiting a number of unique places that are characteristic of the new China.
Visual System presents tableaux that are made up of live, moving, and/or pulsating pixels, both organic and kinetic, while being comprised of a hyper-regular geometric frame. Each installation is constantly changing and therefore so does the dialogue it creates with its environment (location, other works, the audience, etc.). It’s actually impossible for this experience to happen in the same way twice. These panels sync in real-time to original music that is a mix of traditional Chinese cultural music and electronic sounds. Finally, these tableaux are each unique in the way that they move, as once turned off, they are all identical; it is the light that gives them their colour.
