UULZALGA means ‘encounter’ in Buryat. The encounter is that of Viktor, musician from Buryat, land of the shamans in Eastern Siberia (at the northern border of Mongolia) and throat singer, with Chris, eclectic guitarist and with Balatman, electric-keyboard whizz and co-founder of the group No Jazz.
Viktor Okthon’s vocal harmonies play with Balatman’s electronics and soar with Chris’ chords on guitar. A combination skilfully injected with throat singing, mind-blowing guitar solos, urban sounds, traditional instruments… which very quickly take the public on a voyage to the heart of a high-tech steppe dominated by Shaman spirit. It skims trance, it makes you dance, and smile ecstatically....A true success story which will mean that this music, born of this improbable encounter between traditional music from Buryat and electro-jazz, must be taken to an international stage.
