The Pivot Dictation

Take a tour of the French-speaking world via a game in which you discover 20 new French expressions.

Connect to WeChat (ID: 法国文化) on 23rd February and throughout the month of March. Play and try to win the many prizes generously offered by Pierre Fabre and Shang Wenjiie, the ambassador of the Francophonie Festival.

From 23rd February to 1st March, the most courageous players will also be able to win a ticket for the incredible final taking place on 20th March in Beijing as part of International Francophonie Day. Up for grabs is a magnificent trip to Switzerland and France – the heart of the European Francophonie – as well as incredible visits to the most beautiful places in Francophone history and culture.

The 29 finalists selected on the WeChat social network will come to Beijing for the final. The competition will take places in the Swiss Residence, which will be transformed into a prestigious examination hall for the occasion. The dictation will be read by the great French linguist Bernard Cerquiglini, under the patronage of Bernard Pivot.

The linguist Bernard Cerquiglini, champion of both la Francophonie and multilinguism, is known the world over as the creator of the TV learning programme Merci Professeur! in which he manages to make French spelling and grammar seem clear and exciting. A university lecturer, he has held several official positions related to the promotion of the French language, in particular that of Rector of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF).

President of the Académie Goncourt since 2014, writer and host of literature programme; Bernard Pivot has a long career serving as journalists on television. He hosted the famous literary programme Apostrophes where he interviewed for more than 20 years the biggest names in the writing world. Defending the French language, he brought back dictation - often associated with the worst souvenirs at school - as a popular exercice. In order to celebrate the French language in China, Bernard Pivot is sponsoring a distinctly modern version of the dictation via a big WeChat game here in China and a Grand Finale at the Résidence of the Swiss Embassy.
