French Poetry Translation Competition
To celebrate the 21st Francophonie Festival, the media library at the Beijing Institut Français is hosting a competition dedicated to lovers of poetry and translation.
Working in tandem, participants are invited to translate five poems from French into Chinese. Often thought of as a solitary pursuit, translation can also be a source of dialogue and collaborative research. The idea of the competition is to incite a discussion of the poems in French – the language the participants are learning – while discovering some of the most important male and female poets in the history of French poetry, including Christine de Pisan, Louise Labé, Pierre de Ronsard, Raymond Queneau and Pierre Corneille. The jury has selected 3 duos which will introduce their texts, in French, in Chinese and maybe... in songs. After the jury's deliberation, three prizes will be awarded to the candidates.
