Agora(s) - Nicolas Clauss

Agora(s) is a self-generating, immersive visual and audio installation spread over five four-metre-wide screens.

Incorporating more than 250 three-second-long sequences filmed in a dozen public spaces around the world, the installation explores the plastic relationship between individual bodies and the shapes that they become as a function of the “choreographic” process. The enquiry is centred on movement, repetition and the expansive qualities of filmic timeframes.

The filmed sequences that make up the installation play according to a script that is self-generating and partially random. The work explores and deconstructs filmic timeframes. Neither fixed nor linear, it plays on an infinitive loop, continually renewing itself. Agora(s)’ subject matter is anonymous meetings that take place in public spaces: groups of people united by circumstance, who are brought together at the same time and in the same place by the forces of chance.

This exhibition is presented as part of the “French culture month” organized by the Millenium World Art Museum.

The artist Nicolas Clauss will hold a conference about his work and the specific history of the installation.

Nicolas Clauss stops painting in year 2000 to dedicate himself to video and new medias works. His generative installations, are non-linear, they always renewing themselves in an infinite way. His work is constantly questioning the human figure and reality, researching new ways for exploring moving images.
