Translating the need for environmental consciousness

Translating the need for environmental consciousness

In the wake of the COP21, some effort is needed to give birth to a properly Chinese environmental consciousness and to foster ideas. In light of that, the translation of books on ecology and the environment seems more central than ever. The French embassy is  launching a foreign rights booklet project to encourage this transmission, from one language to another, of texts fundamental for ecology.

Fifty-nine French publishers targeted; 120 applications received and, in the end, nearly 40 books selected to represent France and the diversity of its opinions on the environmental debate. Among those accepted, The Titanic Syndrome rubs shoulders with The Climate Atlas or Beyond Nature and Culture. Hard sciences, social sciences, philosophy, essays, written documentaries  echo each other in this booklet.

All of the presented titles are available to be translated into Mandarin, in the hopes that Chinese publishers will seize the opportunity to raise the green-coloured banner. This selective list of debate stirring books finally allows the environment to have its say with Chinese publishers, Chinese translators and, soon, Chinese readers.
