This concert brings together two talented musicians from radically different backgrounds. It features stripped down, innovative dialogue between Ballaké Sissoko on the kora (a traditional instrument from Mali) and Vincent Segal, the iconic classical cellist.
In a duet, a musician relies above all on his first true instrument, his ears. Kora player, Ballaké Sissoko and cellist, Vincent Segal push this art of conversation, listening and paying attention to the other, to the limits of precision in Chamber Music.
This album could have simply borne witness to a brief meeting of cultures. Thankfully it is so much more. Neither musician wished to hurry the process. ‘It was important to get to know each other musically,’ explains the Malian musician. ‘For quite a time I would go to Vincent’s each time I was in Paris and we also did a few concerts. We built our bond bit by bit. Today, when we play, we understand each other without even talking…’ (Ballaké Sissoko)
