Exhibition|Babel, by Du Zhenjun

The fifteen images of the series dedicated to Babel are the result of an extremely complex process, which requested several months of work. They have been composed from a hundred items taken on the Internet: characters, animals, demonstrations, architectural elements, panels… These elements are then gathered and juxtaposed, before using the Chinese traditional technique of ink drawing to link them forever.

Through collages of monuments and crowds taken on the Internet, Du Zhenjun recreates a global city, just like our globalised society. This exhibition, a reference to the biblical episode of Babel denunciating human immoderation, pictures a humanity that appears to be doomed to failure, undermined by an intense urbanisation and pollution.

Du Zhenjun (1961) was trained in traditional Chinese painting techniques at the Fine Art Museum of Shanghai, and later in digital arts at the Rennes School of Fine Arts. He has been living between Paris and Shanghai for ten years, and praised for  his photographs, his performances and his interactive installations. His works have been exhibited in numerous museums, among which the Conciergerie of Paris, the Lieu Unique of Nantes, the Castle-Museum of Annecy and the ZKM of Karlsruhe.
